If you desire a mineral originating from biological processes, of incredible beauty and rarity; LAZZERINI-GEOJOIAS presents this American link necklace with a handcrafted wire pendant (both 18k gold plated), containing a "Burr" druse cluster of rare euhedral "in natura" Aragonite crystals (98.7 ct), coral-orange-reddish in color, gemological grade A, and originating from Morocco.
Description: This mineral, composed of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), is a high-pressure polymorph of calcite, with aragonite being much rarer and less stable under atmospheric conditions.
Crystal system: orthorhombic bipyramidal; Crystal habit: long to short prismatic; Luster: vitreous, resinous; Diaphaneity: transparent, translucent; Mohs hardness: 3.5 – 4; Tenacity: brittle; Density: 2.947 g/cm3 and Fracture: subconchoidal.
Under long-wave ultraviolet light, it shows fluorescence in pale pink, yellow, white, or bluish, with greenish or white phosphorescence. Under short-wave UV light, it shows yellowish fluorescence.
It is formed by biological and physical processes, including precipitation in marine and freshwater environments; being found both in organic deposits, such as corals, pearls, and mother-of-pearl (of Aragonite composition), and in caves and areas near places where there are hot springs (hot waters). Aragonite almost always originates at low temperatures and near the surface, crystallizing under a very narrow range of physical-chemical conditions. It is metastable in relation to Calcite, converting on a timescale of up to 100 million years. There is no Aragonite from past geological times.
Origin of this piece: Sefrou Province/Morocco in carbonate sedimentary rocks approximately 100 Ma (million years old).
Cultural Significance
Aragonite received this name in honor of the Aragon River - Spain, where it was first discovered in 1788 by mineralogist Abraham Gottlob Werner and possesses pseudo-hexagonal twinned crystals. This type of mineral from the Sefrou Province, Morocco, has a habit called "Burr Crystal"; a rare three-dimensional cluster, with the best specimens having crystal points radiating from the center and with no central matrix. Due to its crystalline formations, they are considered remarkable healing aids, as energy is sent in all directions, similar to a sphere.
Traditions and Symbolism
Aragonite was already known by ancient indigenous peoples, by Greeks and Romans who appreciated it as an ornamental, talismanic and healing stone; very useful for mental and spiritual problems. In many hot springs it is stored as a shining stone.
In the Book of Stones, Robert Simmons reports that Aragonite is excellent for improving your intuition and psychic abilities. He notes that it is an excellent stabilizing influence. Naisha Ahsian tells us that it is used to support the practice of breathwork for emotional healing. In “Love Is In The Earth,” Melody notes that Aragonite is excellent for improving your patience and maintaining a state of calm during periods of increased responsibility and stress.
Metaphysical Energy – summary: acceptance, discipline, calming, stress, mental exhaustion, fatigue, focus, patience, tolerance, grounding, and confidence. Aragonite's cleansing and energy-dissipating effect eliminates negative attitudes and feelings such as jealousy, anger, and disappointment. An excellent companion in meditation.
Zodiac: Capricorn. Chakras: First.
