PIRACICABA "FLINTSTONE" (BLACK & CHOCOLATE CHERT) – EXTRA POLISH | HANDCRAFTED PENDANT NECKLACE (18K GOLD PLATED)
A LAZZERINI-GEOJOIAS piece rich in significance. Its origins are linked to the Great Permian Extinction (~250 million years ago), the evolution of petroleum, rare microbiota formation, the geodiversity of Piracicaba (São Paulo, Brazil), and the unique biochemical properties observed in this crystal since ancient times. Presented as an original design, it features a Portuguese-link chain and a handcrafted wire-wrapped pendant (both 18k gold-plated), showcasing a polished fragment (262.2 ct) of "Flintstone"—banded black and chocolate chert.
EXTRA gemological grade: black or black-and-brown color; translucent to opaque; vitreous luster; matrix < 10%.
This specimen was manually collected at the source from limestone quarry tailings in Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil.
.DESCRIPTIONS
Dark gray to black chert is commonly referred to as "flint."
Composed primarily of amorphous, microcrystalline, cryptocrystalline, and microfibrous quartz, it features fine grain, high hardness (~7.0 on the Mohs scale), high specific gravity, a compact structure, a vitreous appearance, and a dark color. It is also sensorially distinctive due to its luster, conchoidal-scaly fractures, occasional stratification (chalcedony), and unique thermal and acoustic properties.
It generally forms through the biogenic replacement of calcium carbonate by silica, occurring as nodules in calcareous, marly, and shaly sedimentary rocks across vast areas of the deep ocean floor; these rocks contain siliceous skeletal remains of diatoms, silicoflagellates, and radiolarians. Depending on its origin, it may contain microfossils. The cryptocrystalline nature of chert, combined with its above-average resistance to weathering, recrystallization, and metamorphism, has made it an ideal rock for preserving early forms of life.
It exhibits distinctive characteristics linked to paleoenvironmental instabilities in the Paraná Sedimentary Basin during the Permian-Triassic periods (280 to 240 million years ago)—a time coinciding with the event known as the "mother of all mass extinctions." These conditions involved fields of multifocal hydrothermal fluid discharge and thermal convection mechanisms, followed by widespread silica deposition and hydrocarbon redistribution.
It features chert layers ranging from millimeters to centimeters in thickness (occasionally continuous), often associated with the growth of silica spherules or concretions—primarily along the contacts between silicified dolostones and clay-rich mudstone or black shale layers. These sediments are among the most organic-rich in the world (Permian-Triassic); they originated from diatoms and are particularly enriched in kerogen, potassium, trace elements (Cu, Ni, Co, and U), and rare-earth elements (REE). Due to its mode of formation and the absence of ferrous iron, it does not produce sparks.
Its cabochons are highly prized for jewelry (similar to those from Ohio, USA), offering exceptional beauty for use as ornaments, amulets, or jewelry pieces. Symbolism, Cultural Significance, Traditions, and Energetic Beliefs
Since ancient times, these minerals have been used for various purposes: as tools, weapons, and fire-starting aids; as ornaments and protective amulets against evil (common in Scotland and Ireland); in folk medicine and shamanic purification rituals; and as bactericidal agents. They also feature in the evolution of *materia medica*—ranging from prophylactics and simple Galenic remedies to iatrochemical preparations (Duffin, 2013; 2017; 2018). Furthermore, they are part of the knowledge systems of traditional and complementary medicines, including Chinese, Tibetan, and Indian medicine, as well as lithotherapy, crystal healing, geotherapy, yoga, Feng Shui, and astrology.
The vibrational, piezoelectric, and pyroelectric energies of quartz crystals—particularly those rich in silicified organic matter—have long been harnessed in diverse ways. However, their most valuable properties lie in the energy they provide, which is recognized for its health benefits. Keeping one in the home enhances the family's well-being. It is a stone of perseverance and strength that aids in overcoming life's adversities.
Many biogenic sedimentary siliceous materials—rich in organic components, especially kerogen—are known to help detoxify the body and mind of negative patterns or thoughts that might otherwise manifest externally as negative cycles and outcomes. Thus, they detoxify not only the physical body but also the emotional and mental bodies.
From protecting you against EMFs (harmful electric and magnetic fields) and balancing your mental and emotional state to purifying your water, the benefits of these minerals are extensive; you can use them daily to help cleanse your sacred self. Meditate with them, carry them as amulets, add them to your jewelry collection, or use them to decorate and energize indoor spaces. Take a "digital detox" bath.
It is an excellent gemstone for all chakras—including the Earth Star, which anchors the entire chakra system—and possesses many other properties. For instance, it is said to hold our past karma and anchor the etheric fragments of our soul to the physical body, ensuring we do not lose our souls (or bodies). Although not a typical birthstone, the Zodiac signs that benefit most from using or working with it are Scorpio, Leo, and Libra.
It is one of the best talismans for those seeking to feel grounded and secure in their lives. If you desire emotional stability or simply a sense of belonging, try wearing a piece of jewelry featuring this natural crystal. Keeping it with you can serve as an amulet of protection against negative energies and low vibrations. If you need to let go of something in your life—whether it is a bad habit, a source of irritation, or a complex problem—it can be one of your greatest allies.
This crystal works for anyone wishing to enhance their connection to the spiritual world. It is also a fantastic companion for those hoping to manifest something positive in their lives. It acts as an anchor and a protector, and can help individuals develop their spirituality.
Although it is considered a self-energizing crystal, regular cleansing and programming are recommended (Crystal Therapy/Lithotherapy).
.BACTERICIDAL WATER – PROTECTION AGAINST IONIZING RADIATION
Using flint stones for the biological activation of water reduces therapy time and increases the effectiveness of treatments for various ailments. It has been specifically demonstrated that flint-infused water offers dramatic protection against ionizing radiation (Zhavrid et al., 1998). Prolonged consumption of flint-infused water by healthy animals prior to total-body gamma irradiation (6–8 Gy) increased their physiological resistance and significantly reduced the effects of ionizing radiation.
