ORIGIN & THE SCIENCE OF BEAUTY
Ruby is the red variety of corundum, a mineral composed essentially of aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃). Its color is produced primarily by the presence of chromium within the crystal structure. It crystallizes in the trigonal system, exhibits vitreous to adamantine luster, and has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, making it one of the most scratch-resistant natural minerals.
This specimen preserves its natural, fragmented, and translucent form, featuring distinct visual characteristics that record the conditions of its geological formation. Reference materials link these ruby specimens to the Carnaíba region in Bahia.
SYMBOLISM & TRADITIONS
Throughout history, the ruby has been associated with vitality, courage, love, passion, prosperity, and protection. In contemporary crystal healing traditions, it is primarily linked to the Root and Heart chakras and is recognized as the birthstone for July. These references are symbolic and cultural and do not replace medical or therapeutic advice.
