Corumbataí Purple Shale is a fine-grained sedimentary rock composed of clayey and sandy siltstones, containing quartz, feldspars, clay minerals, carbonates, and iron oxides. Its laminations record deposition and diagenesis processes that occurred approximately 275 million years ago in the Paraná Sedimentary Basin. The reddish-purple tones are linked to oxidizing conditions and the presence of iron oxides. The specimen was collected in Piracicaba, within the territory of the Corumbataí Geopark Project—a regional initiative dedicated to highlighting geological, cultural, and environmental heritage.
