ORIGIN & THE SCIENCE OF BEAUTY
Indicolite is the gemological name for blue tourmaline, often associated with Elbaite, a member of the boron cyclosilicate group. From the Araçuaí region of Minas Gerais, Brazil, these Grade A crystals display attractive blue color, translucent clarity and approximately 25%–50% natural matrix, preserving traces of their geological origin.
Strong pleochroism reveals shifts from dark blue-green to lighter blue depending on viewing direction. Typically prismatic and vitreous, tourmaline crystallizes in the trigonal system, has a Mohs hardness of 7–7.5, and exhibits the physical properties of piezoelectricity and pyroelectricity. These natural features make every piece distinctive.
