This specimen is marketed as "Paraíba Amazonite" due to the intense blue-green color (resembling the hue of Paraíba Tourmalines) of the feldspar found within the equigranular texture of the granitic rock, alongside other minerals such as quartz, microcline, biotite, and hornblende. It originates from Santa Maria de Itabira, Minas Gerais, Brazil—specifically from the Borrachudos Suite (dating back approximately 1.7 billion years). The suite's medium- to coarse-grained granites have borne this name since 1963 and outcrop as various bodies in the central part of Minas Gerais state, northeast of the Iron Quadrangle (*Quadrilátero Ferrífero*).
Amazonite is a silicate belonging to the microcline alkali feldspar group, with the chemical composition KAlSi3O8 and a triclinic crystal system. It displays colors ranging from green to blue-green (apple green), exhibits perfect cleavage in two directions forming angles of approximately 90°, has a Mohs hardness of around 6.0, and a relative density between 2.55 and 2.76 g/cm³.
