Sourced from Ametista do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, Lace Agate is a banded variety of chalcedony composed of microcrystalline silica (SiO₂), part of the quartz family. Its curves and bands form as silica is deposited in successive layers within rock cavities and fractures, preserving a visible geological history. Polishing reveals one-of-a-kind lace-like patterns, nuances and contrasts. Typical hardness is 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale. “Turquoise-blue” refers to its color, not to the mineral turquoise.
