ORIGIN & THE SCIENCE OF BEAUTY
Emerald is the green variety of Beryl, an aluminum beryllium cyclosilicate with the ideal formula Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈. It crystallizes in the hexagonal system and ranges from light to dark green, with variable transparency and natural inclusions. Its color is mainly related to trace elements such as chromium and vanadium, with iron also potentially influencing the hue.
This specimen comes from Muzo, Boyacá, Colombia, a region historically recognized for Emerald production. The piece preserves a natural association with Pyrite, Illite and Quartz, revealing not only the gemstone but also part of its geological context. Under LAZZERINI-GEOJOIAS criteria, it is Gemological Grade B: poor green color, opaque, with more than 25% matrix.
