ORIGIN & THE SCIENCE OF BEAUTY

Emerald is the green variety of Beryl, an aluminum beryllium cyclosilicate with the ideal formula Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈. It crystallizes in the hexagonal system, and its color is mainly related to trace elements such as chromium and vanadium, with iron also potentially influencing the hue. Natural inclusions, fissures, fractures and portions of matrix record the crystal’s growth history and reinforce the mineralogical identity of raw specimens.

These crystals come from the Serra da Carnaíba region, Campo Formoso, Bahia, Brazil, one of the country’s classic Emerald occurrences. In this region, associations with mica minerals such as Phlogopite/Biotite are geologically significant. Under LAZZERINI-GEOJOIAS criteria, the specimens are Gemological Grade A: attractive green color, opaque, approximately 10% to 25% matrix, with a subhedral prismatic habit.
