LAZZERINI-GEOJOIAS, following modern jewelry concepts in natural and handcrafted crystals, brings you another very characteristic natural and historical gemstone from Brazil. A precious stone that is so rare that it is practically unknown.
Here, in an exclusive set of 2 organic earrings in pin frames, with 2 handcrafted pendants in wirework (all plated in HYPOALLERGENIC white Rhodium), and containing 2 very rare crystals (1.75 ct) of Euclase, gemological grade EXTRA, bicolor banded in blue and white; exclusive to the Ouro Preto region – Minas Gerais – Brazil.
Euclase is a beryllium aluminum hydroxide silicate with the formula Be3Al2Si6O18. It belongs to the mineral type of Beryls (Emerald, Aquamarine, Morganite), but being from another crystalline group and with another density. It mostly occurs with few inclusions, well-defined prismatic and striated natural habits, such as fine, parallel lines slightly notched along its flat crystal faces (longitudinal direction).
Its vitreous luster, transparency, blue color, prismatic habit (euhedral/subhedral), with points (terminations) and bands of different colors; are the properties most appreciated in gemological valuation. Its coloration occurs due to varying amounts of iron impurities or transitions from ferrous iron (Fe2+) to ferric iron (Fe3+) or titanium (Ti4+).
One of its most striking characteristics is its pleochroism, which refers to its ability to display different colors when viewed from different angles. This phenomenon adds depth and complexity to the gemstone's appearance, making it highly sought after by jewelers, enthusiasts, and high-end collectors.
It is a fairly rare mineral in nature, frequently exhibiting gemological properties. Since the 18th century, Brazil has stood out as the world's leading producer, especially of the historic deposits associated with the Imperial Topaz of Ouro Preto - Minas Gerais.
Historic, because the first specimens of Euclase discovered came from Brazil in 1785. The French naturalist Joseph Dombey brought them to Europe in 1785, where the French mineralogist René Just Haüy studied and named the new gem species in 1792. Thus, it is considered the second Brazilian mineral, soon after the description of Chrysoberyl in 1789.
