Flintstone Black Flint Polished Flake Wired Mesh Necklace Woven Cord
Exclusive Selection LAZZERINI-GEOJOIAS
The dark gray to black mineral flint (chert) is called "flint." Composed primarily of amorphous, microcrystalline, cryptocrystalline, and microfibrous quartz, it has fine grains, high hardness (~7.0 Mohs) and specific gravity, a compact structure, a glassy appearance, and a dark color. It is also sensorially notable for its shiny appearance, conchoidal scaly fractures, sometimes with layering (chalcedony), and distinct thermal and sonic properties. Chalcedony is distinguished by its more fibrous structure.
It generally occurs through the biogenic replacement of calcium carbonate by silica, as nodules in limestone, marly, and mudstone sedimentary rocks from large areas of the deep ocean floor, containing the remains of the silicon skeletons of diatoms, silicoflagellates, and radiolarians; depending on their origin, they may contain microfossils. The cryptocrystalline nature of flint, combined with its above-average ability to resist weathering, recrystallization, and metamorphism, made it an ideal rock for the preservation of early life forms.
This sample of flintstone, personally collected at the source (Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil), possesses peculiar characteristics related to the paleoenvironmental instabilities that occurred in the Paraná Sedimentary Basin during the Permian-Triassic periods (280 to 240 million years ago), coinciding with the period recognized as the "mother of all mass extinctions." Multifocused hydrothermal fluid discharge fields, thermal convection mechanisms, followed by widespread silica deposition and hydrocarbon redistribution.
.SPECIAL FEATURES:
Presence of millimeter- to centimeter-thick flint layers (occasionally continuous), often associated with the growth of silica spherules/concretions, mainly along contacts between silicified dolomites and clay-rich mudstone or black shales. Among the sediments with the most organic matter in the world (Permian-Triassic), originated by diatoms and particularly enriched in kerogen, potassium, trace elements (Cu, Ni, Co, and U), and REE. Due to its genesis, with the absence of ferrous metals, it does not generate sparks.

Since ancient times, flintstone has been used as: utensils, weapons, firemaking, adornments, protective amulets against evil (very common in Scotland and Ireland), folk medicine in shamanic purification rituals, archaeological bactericidal agents, or in the context of the evolution of materia medica as prophylactics, simple galenics, and iatrachemical preparations (Duffin, 2013; 2017; 2018). It is also part of the knowledge of traditional and complementary medicines, such as Chinese, Tibetan, Indian, lithotherapy, crystal medicine, geotherapy, yoga, Feng Shui, astrology, etc.
The vibrational, piezoelectric, and pyroelectric energies of quartz crystals, especially mineraloids rich in silicified organic matter; They have been used for a long time and in a variety of ways. But their most valuable properties lie in their energy, which is known to bring health benefits. If stored in a home, it will increase family well-being. This is a stone of perseverance and strength, which will help overcome life's adversities.
