Discover the luminous rarity of Marialite Scapolite (17.7 ct), a rare natural prismatic crystal of gemological grade A, with fluorescence under UV light. In this exclusive piece from LAZZERINI-GEOJOIAS, mineral nature meets art; with a pendant in handcrafted wirework and a Baiano cord necklace, both plated in 18k gold.
To wear a precious stone rarely seen in jewelry and highly valued by collectors. In addition to its relevant Brazilian historical/cultural significance, related to the mineralogist and influential politician José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva.
- Description
Scapolite is a mineralogical “series/group” (not a single mineral) between the extremes Marialite (richer in sodium) and Meionite (richer in calcium); being a complex tectosilicate, containing: sodium, calcium, silicon, aluminum, oxygen, chlorine, carbon and sulfur.
These gems are extremely rare and desirable, as they are characteristic of specific geological conditions and are also easily attacked or damaged by weathering on the Earth's surface. Due to the rarity of its jewelry specimen, the fame of this gem is not high.
Its vitreous luster has made it a popular gemstone.
Color/Transparency: colorless (white) to yellowish, from transparent to translucent and is generally seen with good clarity.
Crystal habit: prismatic crystals with a fibrous appearance.
Impurities: are very common in specimens larger than 6.0 ct.; such as inclusions in hollow tubes, needles or thin platelets parallel to the major prismatic axis, which cause acrociation.
Optical effects: opalescence (peculiarity as a gemstone), pleochroism (from colorless to light yellow) and fluorescence (yellow to orange under short and long wavelength ultraviolet light).
Pleochroism: Colorless and light yellow gems - colorless to light yellow/yellow.
Gemological grade A: due to the above characteristics, for this specimen.
- Cultural Significance - Symbolism (contemporary traditions)
Named from the Greek words "skapos," meaning excavator or stem/branch, and "lithos," meaning stone; due to its long, column-shaped prismatic crystals.
It is also called Wernrite, which derives from the name of its discoverer. In the 18th century, the Brazilian scientist José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva named Scapolite "Wernerite" in honor of Abraham Gottlob Werner's discovery. Werner was also called the "Father of German Geology." A document recorded the physical and chemical description of 4 new minerals never before studied and 8 already known, making Bonifácio the discoverer of petalite, spodumene, cryolite, and scapolite.
The colorless/white Scapolite is a beautiful crystal of inspiration. It can bring balance to the mind, body, and spirit, as well as promote knowledge, understanding, and creativity. It is believed to protect the wearer from negativity and help awaken their spiritual side. It symbolizes clarity of thought and vision, resulting from connection with a higher self.
The main meaning behind the Scapolite crystal is spiritual growth and balance. It is said to be a powerful gemstone that helps people stay connected to their inner wisdom, allowing them to move forward with their lives in a more balanced and centered way.
It helps people make decisions and eliminate any internal obstacles that interfere with progress. It is associated with clarity, self-control, and serenity, being chosen by those who want focus and emotional lightness in their daily lives. Summary: Protection, healing, calming.
ZODIAC: Taurus, Libra. CHAKRA: Solar Plexus.
