Beauty and innovation to wear in this exclusive natural crystal jewel from LAZZERINI-GEOJOIAS. An American link type necklace, with a handcrafted pendant in wire mesh (white rhodium plated - hypoallergenic); containing a natural fragment (19.9 ct) of gem-grade A Chrysoprase crystal, in the matrix rock.
Description
Chrysoprase is a rare and valuable variety of cryptocrystalline chalcedony quartz, recognized for its apple-green to deep-green color, resulting from the small presence of nickel. It has a milky or high luster when polished, with a milky, oily or waxy sheen; it varies from translucent to opaque and may have rough, light brown spots throughout. It possesses hardness, color consistency and translucency that make it a valuable crystal for jewelry.
One of the reasons this crystal is so rare is its formation, which results from the deep weathering or lateritization of nickeliferous serpentinites or other ultramafic ophiolitic rocks.
Cultural Significance
The word Chrysoprase comes from the Greek χρυσ?ς chrysos, meaning gold, and πρ?σινον prasion, meaning green. It has been known to humans for thousands of years and is described as having been the favorite stone of Alexander the Great, who used it as a talisman. According to legend, he stopped winning battles after losing the stone.
It is one of the gems that make up the foundation of the New Jerusalem described in Revelation; medieval symbolism has depicted twelve stones as the twelve apostles, representing Chrysoprase as Judas Thaddeus. It was also mentioned in the Bible, where it is described as one of the ten cornerstones of the New Jerusalem.
Chrysoprase has been valued since antiquity (Egyptians, Greeks, Romans) for its beauty and calming properties. Historically, this gemstone gained prominence as a decorative stone in Europe during the 18th century.
It is considered the crystal of hope, creativity, and emotional balance, as well as compassion and love.
