Andalusite is a silicate mineral belonging to the aluminosilicate subgroup. Its crystalline structure consists of tetrahedral units of silicon and aluminum bonded to oxygen atoms, forming a three-dimensional structure. It originates from metamorphic characteristics of very specific temperature and pressure, occurring more than 1.5 billion years ago. It is eponymous of Andalusia, a region in southern Spain.
