Topaz is a fluorine and aluminum silicate (Al2SiO4(F,OH)2), known for its vitreous luster, high optical dispersion (ability to split white light into its spectral colors - responsible for the "fire" or flashes of color), high density, basal cleavage, and excellent resistance; it is the hardest silicate mineral ever discovered (8 on the Mohs scale).

This piece features a transparent, colorless, or white Topaz crystal. Although white is the most common color of this mineral, this one has an EXTRA gemological grade (ice-water color, high transparency, and matrix <10%).
