LAZZERINI-GEOJOIAS, following modern jewelry concepts in natural and handcrafted crystals, brings you another innovative exclusive piece that is very characteristic of Brazil.
Here, in an exclusive wide Portuguese link necklace, with a handcrafted pendant in alambrazium (both plated in HYPOALLERGENIC white Rhodium) and containing prismatic white Microcline Feldspar crystal (22.9 ct); originating from the Capelinha region – Minas Gerais – Brazil.
Feldspars are tectosilicates that make up more than 60%, by volume, of the rocks in the Earth's crust. The content and type of Feldspar, plus the content of Quartz (the second most abundant mineral), are the basis for the knowledge and classification of igneous rocks; resulting from the crystallization of intrusive or extrusive magma, such as in hydrothermal or pneumatolytic veins and pegmatites.
This mineral group is diversified into 20 species: Sanidine, Orthoclase, Anorthoclase, Microcline, Albite, Pericline, Adularia, Oligoclase, Andesine, Labradorite, Bytownite, Anorthite, Amazonite, Moonstone, Sunstone, Spectrolite,...
They can have a monoclinic crystal structure (Orthoclase and Sanidine) or a triclinic structure (Microcline, Anorthoclase and all plagioclase feldspars). They grow (when allowed) in rectangular crystals, generally breaking in the same way.
This breakage pattern is called cleavage, having two cleavage directions that meet at an angle close to 90 degrees (like a ladder).
Their peculiar properties: chemical, physical and thermal resistance; durability, good dispersibility, stable pH and viscosity.
Microcline is an alkali potassium feldspar (KAlSi₃O₈), an aluminum tectosilicate with potassium, sodium, and calcium cations. It is a polymorph of orthoclase (medium to low temperature and with a highly ordered internal organization), with a triclinic crystal structure, pinacoidal crystallographic class, and known for forming some of the largest prismatic or short tabular crystals (tons), although it is not very common in the gemological sector.
It can be colorless, white, cream to pale yellow, salmon pink to red, or bright green to bluish-green. It has a pearly (pearly in the cracks) to vitreous luster due to flat cleavage surfaces. The crystals are often multiple twins, with two sets of fine lines at right angles to each other. This gives a unique "checkerboard" effect.
More abundant in rocks as masses intergrown with Quartz and lacking a defined shape, they occur as compact minerals, with aggregate habits ranging from granular to massive or cleavage-susceptible. The crystals are tabular or elongated prismatic, mostly exhibiting simple and repeating twinning according to Carlsbad's laws (most common); sometimes they exhibit Albite or Pericline twinning. They do not manifest as parallel lines on certain cleavage surfaces like Plagioclase.
Very common in Brazil, for example: in Minas Gerais, Salinas, Urucum and Capelinha.
Symbolism and energetic traditions
The name "Feldspar" comes from the German "feldspath or feldspat", which is divided into feld, meaning "field", and "spath or spat", meaning "a rock that does not contain ore". Historically it was used for minerals that could be easily broken into flat flakes.
Microcline derives from the Greek “mikron”, meaning “micro or small”, and “klinein”, meaning “to incline”, in reference to its cleavage intersections, which are slightly less than 90 degrees.
This origin is likely due to the fact that feldspar is found in rocks discovered in fields, along with the two cleavage directions that cause these minerals to break easily.
