ORIGIN & SCIENCE OF BEAUTY
Sourced from Novo Horizonte, Bahia, Brazil, a region renowned for this mineral association. Rutile (TiO₂) and hematite (Fe₂O₃) can display oriented, epitaxial crystal growth, with golden needles forming star-like and radial patterns on a metallic surface. The regional geological setting includes rocks approximately 1.75 billion years old; this is not a direct age determination for the individual crystals.
In mineralogy, twinning describes crystals of the same mineral joined in a specific symmetrical orientation. Sagenite refers to needle-like rutile, often intersecting or twinned. “Lemurian” and “trigonic” are labels most often associated with features of certain quartz crystals, such as horizontal striations or triangular markings.
